How to style a trench coat

Currently swooning over: women’s trench coats on the Jack Wills website which inspired me to write a post on the most statement of statement pieces.

How to style a trench coat this spring?

Whilst trends come and go, trench coats never go out of style. They are the mother of all staple pieces and one of the smartest wardrobe investments. Whether your style is classic or chic or classically chic – there's definitely a trench to suit you!

The classic - this needs no introduction and can be styled in a thousand and one ways. Why not try the off duty look or what I like to call the ‘weekend mom’ look: unbuttoned trench, lightweight shirt, slouchy or mom jeans and converse.

But, my favourite classic trench ensemble is the pairing with a red floral dress or any ditsy/tea dress, some vans and a cross over body bag – #citygirlvibes.

The stand-out trench – a timeless piece doesn’t have to be a boring piece – why not opt for a pastel coloured trench this spring even if you keep the rest of the look simple. I especially love soft pinks and baby blues.

The Parisian –  a navy trench paired with a Breton-stripe tee, cigarette jeans or trousers and classic pumps is how you nail the French girl look.
A quality trench may cost a few bob but it doesn't need to totally break the bank - Jack Wills have a range of styles and colours that are all under £150!  For more ways to style this timeless piece, check out the Jack Wills guide on 'how to style trench coats'.
